Anthony Joshua was horrendously defeated by Oleskandr Usyk which led to the loss of his IBF, WBA, and WBO heavyweight titles.
Joshua’s reign as IBF, WBA and WBO champion was brought to abrupt stop in thrilling fight with Usyk which took by a unanimous decision.
Joshua was so hurt in the third face of the fight and went on to force himself to cling on in the closing second in the fight that shall live long in the memory of boxing.
The defeat was the second defeat of Joshua’s career after he was beaten in 2019 by Andy Ruiz Jr. in 2019.
This defeat may now frustrate his hope of a dream title fight against Tyson fury who shall face Deontay Wilder on October 9.
Although, Joshua was courageous and brave and had inflicted wound in his challenger’s face, however, Usyk seems to own the night as he went on to be third boxer to win world titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight by defeating Joshua.
He was the undisputed cruiserweight champion and is now missing the WBC belt which is owned and under the domain of Tyson Fury.
Usyk had touched Joshua twice with his quick left hand within the opening round; and any idea that he would box carefully had to spring up within second when his intent became clear to take the center of the ring.
His movement and pace were terrorizing for the few rounds and he was steadily beating Joshua to the punch.
Dramatically, Joshua’s legs dipped, thereby leading to a loud row from the crowd as Usyk shake him with another fantastic left hand at the end of the third round.
Joshua’s major punch came with his right hand in the fifth round, and Usyk just smiled after he got the punch. However, it is quite obvious the champion had definitely left his mark.
He (Joshua) found another right hand on the bell for the end of round 5.
Those punches from Joshua staggered Usyk onto his back foot in round 6, Joshua went on to land a more concrete right hand after then.
Usyk ended the round with a thick black and reddish face.
Later on, Joshua seemed to be dominating the match after he landed a left hook to the body, unfortunately, get shot back with Usyk venom when he went upstairs.
The shot sent Joshua staggering backward, which he did to maintain his footing. Usyk during this time clipped him with a left hand in an engrossing seventh.
Joshua thudded numerous powerful body punches home in round eight but it was clear that the energetic Ukrainian was feeling the extra weight of the brut in those shoes.
Both fighters were hurt badly during the match in the 10ths round. Usyk had a cut and blood was seeping into his eye while Joshua’s eye was badly swollen which is more worrying to the fans.
Usyk’s quick start in round 11 made Joshua go off balance thereby placing him in a danger zone. Although, the champion did fire back.
Usyk was throwing more punches but Joshua was standing very strong to the ground and tried to cling on to his titles.
Joshua had to be forced to desperately survive on the ropes as the last bell rang under an intense onslaught from Usyk.
He stayed upright but it was not enough to continue his reign as the champion.
